Summary of the contracting process

The procurement process overseen by the Lothian Health Board involved purchasing services for the servicing and maintenance of automatic doors across NHS Lothian locations, including Edinburgh, in the UKM75 region. Focusing on the health industry category, the open procedure procurement culminated in awarding contracts on 28 April 2026. The process emphasised routine servicing, inspections, and optional installations for contracts valued up to £50,000. The procurement stage reached completion, transitioning from the tender process initiated in December 2025 through its award phase and signing of contracts in April 2026, with contract periods set to last three years, with options for extension. The suppliers involved were Record UK and Dasco Entrance Technology LTD, tasked with different lots under this contract. The procurement method enabled several submissions, utilising electronic means through the Public Contracts Scotland portal. Additional requirements included significant insurance coverage and qualification verifications in key areas like technical standards and environmental management, ensuring suitability for complex installations and maintenance tasks across the board.

This tender presents substantial business growth opportunities, particularly for companies specialising in automatic door systems, maintenance, and installations—a field requiring expertise and certifications in technical quality and compliance with industry standards. Businesses that hold the necessary health and safety management credentials, environmental management systems, and are affiliated with recognised associations such as ADSA or ADIA stand well-suited to compete. Large and medium enterprises with a stable turnover profile would find ample opportunity to engage, supporting NHS operations given their emphasis on compliance with British and European standards. With contractual terms allowing for potential renewals, this tender not only offers a predictable income stream but reinforces corporate visibility and community engagement through stipulated community benefits. This initiative places companies in a unique position to leverage their capabilities for both immediate contract services and the larger regional enterprise ecosystem, fostering both operational and organisational growth in line with public procurement standards.
