Notice Title

Strategic Environmental Assessment (SEA) for the Woodland Strategy Refresh

Notice Description

The Council is seeking to engage the services of a Consultant to conduct a Strategic Environmental Assessment (SEA) for the Woodland Strategy Refresh.

Lot Information

Lot 1

Scottish Borders Council's current adopted Woodland Strategy (2005) will be undergoing a refresh. This will include a review of a revised framework document, (which will also form part of the evidence base for the next SBC Local development Plan (LDP3), updating the local and national policy context including the Scottish Forestry Strategy, relevant environmental protection legislation and any other pertinent implications for the Borders and nationally within the wider policy landscape. The refreshed strategy will also include a transport assessment for timber extraction, acknowledging the lack of any major timber processing mills in the Borders. The revised strategy will be based on community engagement and consultation with relevant bodies. Since the refreshed Woodland Strategy will be an over-arching, strategic document for the Scottish Borders area, it will need to undergo a Strategic Environmental Assessment, prior to being adopted as a working document by the Council. Timescale: Once Consultants have been appointed, a Programme Plan will be agreed with the Steering Group. Which it is anticipated that it will be adhered to. Any proposed amendments to be approved and agreed with the Steering Group, in liaison with the appointed consultant. Procurement procedure: Quick Quote Estimated Procurement Start: 24th November 2025
