These cover residual waste contingency and fly-tip material, including up to 8,000 tonnes a year of capacity; treatment and disposal of around 1,000–1,500 tonnes a year of waste containing persistent organic pollutants; hazardous waste from the Council’s four household waste recycling centres, including commercial fridges and freezers, fluorescent tubes and household and car batteries; and disposal of paint, paint stripper and paint thinner, with an estimated 280 tonnes of paint a year. The hazardous waste stream includes 250–300 commercial fridge/freezer units and around 3 tonnes of fluorescent tubes and 40 tonnes of batteries annually. The services provide contingency disposal capacity for the Council.
