Summary of the contracting process

The General Dental Council is currently seeking contractors for the "Delivery of Part 1 - Overseas Registration Examinations Services" project, classified under Adult and Other Education Services. This procurement process is being conducted under an open procedure and has reached the tender stage, which will close on 2nd November 2019. The contract is expected to commence on 2nd January 2020 and run until 1st January 2025. The service aims to provide statutory examinations for overseas dentists in the UK and involves substantial financial implications, with an expected expenditure of approximately £1,000,000 over five years.

This tender presents significant opportunities for businesses within the education services sector, particularly those specialising in examination administration and logistics. Companies that provide examination materials, facilities, or instructional support would be well-positioned to compete for this contract. As the legislation stipulates the examination must cater to a growing pool of overseas dentists, businesses that can demonstrate expertise in compliance with the Dentists Act and the Light Touch Regime will have a competitive advantage.
