Summary of the contracting process

The National Audit Office procured hosting and maintenance for its external website, including internet service provider services and associated website development for the Modern Publishing project. The work is a service requirement delivered for the National Audit Office in the United Kingdom. The arrangement covers continued operation of the external website, additional storage and data-transfer capacity, and development work connected with the Modern Publishing project. The requirement was suitable for small and medium-sized enterprises. The appointed supplier, The Dextrous Web (DXW), is based in Leeds and is classified as an SME. The buying organisation is the National Audit Office, whose address is in London.

This procurement is complete and was awarded to The Dextrous Web (DXW) on 27 July 2024. The award value was £27,411. The contract extension runs from 22 August 2024 to 21 August 2026, with a final expiry of 21 August 2026. The tender records an estimated value of £28,500, and the first extension was described as part of a 2+1+1 arrangement. The notice records a second and final extension valued at £27,412.13 gross, plus a contract variation effective from July 2026 that increased the value by £26,220 including VAT for additional website development. The procurement used a contract-extension route through Digital Outcomes and Specialists 5 (RM1043.7).

For a supplier assessing future demand from the National Audit Office, this award demonstrates a recurring need for reliable external-website hosting and maintenance, with the ability to accommodate additional storage, data transfer and related development work. A credible competitor would need operational capability in website hosting, ongoing maintenance and service continuity, alongside the technical capacity to deliver website changes for a defined publishing project. The requirement was suitable for SMEs, so a smaller specialist provider could be well placed if it can demonstrate dependable delivery at this scale. Experience of public-sector digital service routes, particularly Digital Outcomes and Specialists, would help a supplier understand how this buyer accesses specialist digital capability. Website operations and development capability need to work together rather than being offered as isolated services.
