Summary of the contracting process

The British Library is currently in the planning stage for the tender titled "001038 RFI Order Fulfilment Solution." This initiative focuses on software supply services aimed at modernising the Library’s varied order fulfilment processes, which are currently managed through disparate systems. The engagement end date for this process is 6th July 2018, with the Library located in Wetherby, England. This RFI seeks to gather information on potential technology solutions that may enhance operational efficiency and reduce costs associated with order management.

This tender represents a significant opportunity for businesses that specialise in software development and order fulfilment systems, particularly those capable of offering real-time, integrated solutions. Companies that can provide innovative technologies and services to streamline workflows would be especially well-placed to compete, considering the expected annual volume of approximately 350,000 orders. Engaging with this procurement could lead to partnerships with a prestigious institution and bolster business growth through the implementation of new systems that meet the Library's evolving needs.

Notice Title

001038 RFI Order Fulfilment Solution - PLEASE NOTE THIS RFI IS NOW CLOSED - THE DATE ON THIS EARLY ENGAGEMENT IS INCORRECT

Notice Description

PLEASE NOTE THIS RFI IS NOW CLOSED - THE DATE ON THIS EARLY ENGAGEMENT IS INCORRECT The Library currently offers an immediate download, digitise on demand and loans service, via multiple sales channels and systems/manual processes, that is; - British Library On Demand - to obtain contemporary research content, from physical or digital copies, directly to desktops/mobile devices - Imaging Services - to obtain high quality images and scans of the British Library's historic collections - EThOS (the UK's national thesis service) - to obtain doctoral theses, from physical or digital copies Customers can pay on Account or by Card, in multiple currencies. The number of orders expected per year will be c. 350k. The material type, delivery format and image quality required, determines the sales channel the customer must use, and each system/workflow has its own business rules, although the core services provided are the same. One system is integrated with, via defined interfaces, the Library's strategic systems to register; discover holdings; get customer data; pricing information, access rights and take payment/send invoices. Other systems/workflows are free-standing, or data is created manually. This creates a disparate user experience, restricts the Library's ability to attract new business and increases the cost of ownership. The Library is therefore seeking to replace these systems, with a real-time, unified multi-user data driven Order Fulfilment system, to manage orders from a sales enquiry, through to payment and delivery. Hence this RFI is intended to identify how products in the market place can help us do this. We need to know what technologies/services might be suitable and what the likely costs of their implementation might be.
