Summary of the contracting process

The University of Leeds is conducting a procurement process for a gas chromatography system to support its undergraduate teaching laboratories in the School of Chemistry. This tender, titled "F/2655 - Gas Chromatograph - AWARD," is classified under the CPV code for gas chromatographs and is currently in the Award stage. The procurement follows a selective methodology, specifically a restricted procedure, with the contract period set to commence on 30 June 2017 and conclude on 30 June 2018. The tender's deadline for submissions was on 22 February 2017, and it covers the Yorkshire and the Humber region of the United Kingdom.

This tender presents a significant opportunity for businesses specialising in laboratory equipment, particularly those experienced in high-durability designs suitable for educational settings. Companies capable of providing robust systems that support efficient sample queuing and minimal operational training for users are particularly well-placed to compete. Suppliers like Shimadzu UK Ltd, who have already been awarded the contract, demonstrate the sector's demand for reliable and innovative equipment tailored to the academic environment.

Notice Title

F/2655 - Gas Chromatograph - AWARD

Notice Description

The School of Chemistry at the University of Leeds is seeking tenders for a gas chromatography to underpin experiments within its teaching laboratories. These laboratories provide the primary source of laboratory instruction for students in years 1-3 at University. Equipment is communal and shared and in use almost continuously during term time. As part of this process the general laboratory equipment detailed below is required. Suppliers should specifically note that whole life cost will be one of the factors used in deciding upon the final model. An undergraduate teaching laboratory is an unforgiving environment and 18 year old students are very adept at finding weakness in design. Designs must therefore be robust to deal with this environment and operating systems able to support use by undergraduate students with minimal training required. Samples prepared by students are typically prepared at different times during the day and current systems can lead to wasted time as student wait to queue their samples. Solutions that implement simple queuing of samples so that additional samples can be queued while the system is acquiring other data are desirable as are smart data distribution options.
