Notice Information
Notice Title
S30008 Junction Safety
Notice Description
Previous research has identified that collisions at junctions represent at least 21% of Killed and Seriously Injured (KSI) collisions on the Strategic Road Network (SRN), and this is likely to be an underestimate . The previous research did not provide strong recommendations for junction treatments that would reduce KSIs at these locations. Not having strong recommendations for junction treatments limits our ability to have a strong impact on National Highways Key Performance Indicator 1 (KPI1), Safety. This research seeks, the effectiveness of interventions for KSIs at junctions (including innovative junction design), feasibility issues, and how recommended interventions should be used to have the greatest impact on KPI1. The overall aim of the project is to improve our understanding of the factors influencing collision likelihood and severity outcomes at junctions on the SRN, enable greater application of countermeasures with a higher safety impact per PS through improving our understanding of the factors influencing collision likelihood and severity outcomes at junctions on the SRN, the effectiveness of interventions for KSIs at junctions (including innovative junction design), feasibility issues, and how recommended interventions should be used to have the greatest impact on KPI1.
