Summary of the contracting process

The Kent County Council is procuring the provision of a substantial Substance Misuse Service for prisons located in Kent and Medway. This tender, titled "Procurement for the provision of Kent and Medway prison based Substance Misuse Service," is initiated by the NHS South, Central and West Commissioning Support Unit. The contract will commence on 2nd October 2017, span a period of three years with an annual value of £4,650,000, and includes the option for a two-year extension. The procurement method applied is the Open Procedure, and potential bidders were given until 22nd March 2017 to submit their proposals. The successful provider will be required to deliver integrated support tailored to the unique needs of the prison populations, including short-term, remand, and young adult prisoners. This opportunity facilitates business growth for organisations specialising in healthcare and rehabilitation services, particularly those with experience in addiction treatment and psychosocial support. Entities that focus on delivering recovery-oriented, integrated treatment systems within custodial environments will find this tender particularly relevant. The involvement of small and medium enterprises (SMEs) and voluntary community sector enterprises (VCSEs) is encouraged, allowing them to leverage the evolving landscape of prison healthcare in the UK, especially as bidders must navigate potential government policy changes impacting service provision during the contract period.
