Notice Description

The West Hertfordshire Hospitals NHS Trust ("WHHT", "the Trust") provides acute healthcare services to a core catchment population of approximately half a million people living in west Hertfordshire and the surrounding area. The Trust also provides a range of more specialist services to a wider population, serving residents of North London, Bedfordshire, Buckinghamshire and East Hertfordshire. As an employer of almost 5,000 people the Trust is one of the biggest employers in the area and sees nearly a million patients each year. The Trust is seeking accommodation provision for 28 medical students on placement at Watford General Hospital on an annual contract. Co-location with hospital premises is a requirement of the contract. The Trust is required to provide accommodation for students on placement at the Hospital site due to the distance from the base campus at UCL. This accommodation must meet the requirements of HSC (2000) 036 Living and working conditions for hospital doctors in training. Under this guidance all accommodation must: * Be free from serious disrepair * Be structurally stable * Be free from dampness prejudicial to the health of the occupants * Have adequate provision for lighting, heating and ventilation * Have an adequate piped supply of wholesome water * Have an effective system for the drainage of foul, waste and surface water * Have a suitably located WC for exclusive use of the occupants * Have a bath or shower and wash-hand basin, with hot and cold water * Have satisfactory facilities for the preparation and cooking of food including a sink with hot and cold water. * Ensure that each bedroom should be for one occupant (except in married accommodation) * Ensure that each WC, bath and shower should be for no more than three, and by August 2003 no more than two, occupants; * Ensure that each kitchen, dining area and living room should be for no more than four occupants, taking into account the size of the room. For full details of Bedroom, Bathroom and Kitchen requirements please refer to section B and C in HSC (2000) 036. The Trust's Service Level Agreement with UCL also requires the provision of fast broadband within the student accommodation to allow for private study and will be a key requirement of this contract.
