Summary of the contracting process

The University of Nottingham is seeking bids for the procurement of 3D Surface Metrology Equipment, with a tender titled "1364/ITT/SC". This project falls under the goods category, specifically within the surface tension measuring instruments industry. The procurement is currently at the tender stage, and submissions are due by 24 December 2020 at 11:30 AM. The delivery is expected at the university's Nottinghamshire location (postal code NG7 2RN). The estimated contract value is £110,000, with a minimum bid value set at £80,000. The procurement will follow an open procedure due to its value being above the threshold.

This tender presents significant opportunities for businesses specialising in high-precision measuring equipment and surface metrology solutions. Companies that design or manufacture non-contact measurement instruments capable of optical imaging and 3D height profiling would be particularly well-suited to compete for this contract. The opportunity to collaborate with a reputable institution like the University of Nottingham could enhance credibility and expand market presence in the advanced technology sector.

Notice Title

1364/ITT/SC - 3D Surface Metrology Equipment

Notice Description

UoN requires an instrument that can measure the surface profile of objects up to 20 cm in lateral size, with a resolution able to detect features down to 10 nm, in a non-contact manner. The machine will be able to investigate a wide range of projects and technics related to surfaces, coatings and multilayers utilising technics ranging from PVD to liquid plasma spraying to chemically and mechanically modified structures. Materials such as defects on coatings that are electrically insulating but thermally conducting, interfaces, electrode interfaces for batteries and fuel cells, microdevices, ice-phobic coatings, microcracks formation on the surface of a large gear or turbine blade, surface finish on magnetic materials, sample thickness measurements for thin film analysis and so on. The instrument should be able to provide an optical image as well as a 3D height profile of the surface. The output should be a file format suitable for further analyses with surface metrology software already available at UoN.
