Summary of the contracting process

Bristol City Council is planning a tender for the installation and commissioning of substations and the upgrade of heating systems across 16 public buildings in central Bristol, including schools and housing areas. The anticipated procurement process is set to begin on 2nd July 2021, with tender clarifications running until 16th July 2021, and the tender closing on 23rd July 2021. This project falls under the Salix Public Sector Decarbonisation Scheme, with a total estimated value of £2.75 million for the works, which are expected to start on 20th August 2021 and conclude by 31st March 2022. The classification of the work is described as substation construction, and successful contractors will be required to deliver M&E design work, the installation of heat exchanger substations, and upgrading heating systems.

This tender presents significant opportunities for businesses focused on mechanical and electrical contracting, particularly those involved in energy efficiency and decarbonisation solutions. Companies of various sizes, including small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) as well as voluntary and community sector enterprises (VCSEs), are encouraged to participate, given the nature of the works and support for diverse suppliers. This is an excellent prospect for businesses looking to expand their portfolios in sustainable energy projects and contribute to public sector initiatives aimed at enhancing energy efficiency in the local community.
