The UK is drawing lessons from the ESRES pilot phase which is exploring ways to improve energy security and promote resource efficiency in Somaliland. This will involve working alongside the Government, private sector and other development partners in the energy sector in Somaliland. It aims to support Somaliland in diversifying its energy mix, enhancing resilience, and facilitating an enabling institutional and regulatory environment for the expansion of access to electricity. ESRES is predicated on the impact that cheap and affordable power can have on economic development and poverty reduction.
