Summary of the contracting process

The Nottingham City Council is initiating a tender for the "Martins Pond Biodiversity Works (CPU 3202)" project, which focuses on enhancing biodiversity and access to Martin's Pond, a Local Nature Reserve in Wollaton, Nottingham. The procurement is currently at the tender stage, with an open procedure method. The tender period concludes on 19 November 2018, with expected funding approval by March 2019. Notably, works are scheduled to commence in May 2019, with all tasks to be completed by January 2020, although specific constructions related to a boardwalk and viewing platform will occur in winter 2019/20 to protect local wildlife.

This tender offers significant opportunities for businesses focused on environmental conservation and construction. Companies that specialise in ecological works, landscaping, or related construction services may find this a fitting project to compete for, especially given the two Lots structure allowing bidders to submit proposals for one or both. With a contract value of £60,000, small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) and voluntary, community, and social enterprises (VCSEs) are encouraged to participate, potentially expanding their portfolio in sustainable development and contributing to local biodiversity initiatives.

Notice Description

Martin's Pond is designated as a Local Nature Reserve (LNR) believed to be the first site designated as such in Nottinghamshire over 40 years ago. Nestled in amongst a houses and allotments in Wollaton, Martin's Pond is a hidden gem along with the adjacent Harrisons Plantation Local Nature Reserve. In Nottingham, 14 sites have been designated as LNR's forming part of our valuable open space network. The site supports open water, channel, marsh and swamp, wet woodland and an array of birdlife, mammals and invertebrates. Funding approval is expected by March 2019 with works starting at the beginning of May 2019. All works for Lot Two must be completed by the end of August 2019. Works for Lot One will start at the beginning of May 2019 and must be completed by the end of August 2019 with the exception of the boardwalk and viewing platform where construction will take place during winter 2019/20 to avoid harm to nesting birds.
