Summary of the contracting process

Bournemouth, Christchurch and Poole Council established a framework for arboricultural surveys and impact assessments across the South West of England. The services cover the activities described in BS 5837:2012, including tree surveys, tree constraints plans, tree protection plans, arboricultural impact assessments, method statements and arboricultural supervision. The purpose is to manage risks to tree health arising from construction and demolition, including damage to roots, stems and canopies and changes to the surrounding environment. The requirement supports early physical protection of trees above and below ground during development and demolition projects. This is a professional technical and inspection service within the wider construction, engineering and landscape planning sector.

The procurement used an open procedure and has been awarded. Bids were due by 12 March 2026 at 14:00. The estimated framework value was £150,000 to £169,200, excluding any further financial arrangements stated in the procurement. The award was made on 13 August 2026 to Cura Terrae Land and Nature Limited, G. Trott Tree Consultancy, Glendale Countryside Ltd and UA-5 Ltd, with an awarded value of £168,000. The awarded framework runs from 1 September 2026 to 31 August 2030. The procurement was evaluated as a services requirement and was identified as suitable for small and medium-sized enterprises. The framework gives the council access to multiple suppliers for the specified arboricultural work.

This award indicates recurring demand from BCP Council for specialist arboricultural input linked to construction and demolition projects. Credible future suppliers will need to carry out tree surveys and assess how proposed works affect trees, then prepare constraints plans, protection plans, impact assessments and method statements. They will also need to provide competent arboricultural supervision during works and apply the recommendations of BS 5837:2012 across the full design, demolition and construction process. Relevant capability includes assessing risks to tree health both above and below ground, specifying practical protection measures and working effectively with development and project teams. The appointed supplier group includes three SMEs and one large business, showing that both specialist smaller consultancies and larger countryside or environmental service providers can be relevant.
