Summary of the contracting process

The NHS Lewisham Clinical Group is initiating a procurement process for "Primary care training and education on diabetes," targeting the education and training services sector. This process is currently in the planning stage, with a key deadline for engagement set for 22nd December 2020. Interested organisations are encouraged to express their interest via email to Joanne Hare, with a promise that relevant documents including a comprehensive Service Specification will follow. The training will be required across the boroughs of Bexley, Greenwich, and Lewisham in South East England, and the total budget is approximately £140,000 over the next two years.

This tender presents a significant opportunity for businesses specialised in education and training, particularly those with expertise in diabetes management and primary care. Small and Medium-sized Enterprises (SMEs) and Voluntary, Community and Social Enterprises (VCSEs) are well-suited to compete, especially those able to provide tailored training programmes and educational materials that meet evidenced-based guidelines. With potential contracts being awarded across multiple lots, this provides various pathways for organisations to secure funding and expand their services in the healthcare education sector.

Notice Title

Primary care training and education on diabetes

Notice Description

Suitable organisations are invited to express an interest in the provision of primary care training and education on diabetes across Bexley, Greenwich and Lewisham boroughs. The boroughs of Bexley, Greenwich and Lewisham (part of the NHS South East London CCG) are working as a collaborative on the local diabetes system development programme and have given a commissioning commitment to support primary care education that aligns training and educational needs with Diabetes service requirements highlighting a framework that ensure and guarantee access to relevant level of training and education to maintain adequate competency across teams in primary care. In order for primary care staff to effectively manage diabetes, promoting best practice and person-centred care; GPs, practice nurses and GP practice staff across these 3 boroughs need to be aware and informed of new evidence-based information, changes to patient pathways, and to be knowledgeable and up to date with diabetes education. Some of the requirements of the training contract will include; 1. The Provider must coordinate, co-develop and deliver an appropriate training programme and competency framework required at the different levels of competencies according to the complexity of care provided and one that reflects the local service model and specific needs of the local population. 2. The Provider must co-develop tailored educational materials from a mixture of evidence based guidelines and other accredited training materials from professional colleges and universities. A comprehensive Service Specification will be sent to interested parties along with other relevant documents. Please contact Joanne Hare no later than 4pm on Tuesday 22nd December 2020, via email, if you are expressing an interest in being part of the future procurement process. You will then be sent an Invitation to Tender document on 23rd December 2020. Additional information: Successful provider(s) will not be awarded a fixed price contract for the provision of these training services, although we do have a training budget for the next 2 years which is in the region of PS140,000. We will commission relevant training packages as and when needed throughout the next 2 years and it may be that one provider can fulfil all of our training needs or we may use multiple providers to deliver these. This will be determined as part of the invitation to tender where we will split the requirements into lots and providers will have the opportunity to bid against each lot.
