The Heatherlands Community Centre was built in the early eighties to provide provision for community functions and interaction by way of a large function room with main kitchen and small meeting rooms and double heighted sports hall to one end, As the community has changed priorities in the way the rooms are used, for example, child care facilities were added on the western elevation, the child care centre has now also been extended to incorporate a larger timber frame building to the south west elevation. Over the years demand for large sports halls have diminished with increased use of more family orientated requirements with the provision for community care organisations needing locations for consulting and meeting rooms It is the aim of the local authority to bring the existing building up to required community needs by providing more rooms that can be adapted and utilise for a number of primary uses that facilitate the community's needs and possible future requirement. The nature of the work to be undertaken consists of the demolition and removal of a section of the building at ground floor level with an extension to the existing central section of the Northern elevation and the installation of a new first floor level to Eastern side of the building.
