Notice Title
AVON & FRIARS CLIFF BEACH RECYCLING AND CP ASSET REPAIRS CONTRACT
Notice Description
A full Specification of the requirement is set out in client Appendix A - Specification. Please read the Contract and Specification thoroughly as they are documents against which your responses will be evaluated. After Storm Angus in November 2016 a site survey showed that an estimated minimum of 10,000m3 of beach material is required to replenish beach volumes between Mudeford Quay and Friars Cliff. The Scheme will involve placing recycled beach material onto groyned beaches at Avon Beach and Friar's Cliff. The aim is to widen the crest levels at the back of each beach to return them to levels prior to the storm. This provides a first line of protection to coastal defence structures and reduces further risk of beach draw-down. It is proposed to extract material from off-shore sandbars down to the -1.0m O.D level (average dig 600mm) using tracked excavators, articulated dump trucks and bulldozer. Material will then be collected and stockpiled on-shore before transferring to depleted bays. It will be spread on beaches using bulldozers, above the mean high water level. The proposal is to carry out recycling operations during mid-June 2017 over a two week period. There are likely to be one or two operations per day, the first in the early hours and the second in the afternoon. Each operation will last approximately 5hrs and will be dictated by the state of low tide. Should the conditions be unfavourable in June, the next suitable period would be after the summer season. A number of coast protection structures have also been identified as requiring remedial works to improve their standard of defence.
