Summary of the contracting process

The Reading Borough Council is seeking contractors for the "Home School Transport Dynamic Purchasing System" under a selective procurement method, facilitated through a restricted procedure above the threshold. This initiative aims to establish a Dynamic Purchasing System (DPS) in line with UK public procurement regulations to coordinate transport for approximately 470 pupils across 150 routes. Key deadlines include the closing date for initial expressions of interest on 1 September 2020 and the awarding of contracts by 1 October 2020. The service will be implemented in Reading, Berkshire, and caters to the transport industry's needs, specifically addressing wheelchair accessibility and escort services.

This contract presents significant opportunities for businesses, particularly those specialising in transport services such as taxi operators and minibus providers, especially those with the capability to cater to special needs requirements. Companies with the ability to provide a range of vehicles, including wheelchair-accessible vehicles and those equipped with escorts, will be well positioned to compete. Small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) and voluntary community social enterprises (VCSEs) are encouraged to participate, allowing them to engage in a vital service for children's education and social care, thus fostering community integration and business growth.
