Summary of the contracting process

The procurement process, initiated by the Department For Culture Media & Sport, focuses on the project titled "Diversification of the UK Telecoms Supply Chain: Scale Vendors in the Radio Access Network." This initiative falls under the business services sector, specifically aimed at enhancing the UK mobile RAN equipment market. The contract, valued at £147,000, was awarded to KPMG LLP on 23 November 2020, with the contract period running from 21 December 2020 to 23 April 2021. The procurement method employed was selective, utilising a call-off from a framework agreement, and the tender has recently been marked as complete as of 7 April 2021.

This tender presents significant opportunities for small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) and voluntary, community, and social enterprises (VCSEs) aiming to enter or expand within the UK telecoms market. By focusing on the diversification of supply chains and the facilitation of new vendors, this initiative invites businesses that provide consulting and business services relevant to telecoms and technology sectors to compete. The project aims to remove barriers to entry, thus creating a favourable environment for businesses looking to leverage their expertise in radio access networks and related services.

Notice Title

Diversification of the UK Telecoms Supply Chain: Scale Vendors in the Radio Access Network

Notice Description

DCMS is developing the diversification strategy, to meet the following objectives in the UK mobile RAN equipment market: 1). Securing the existing supply chains of non high risk suppliers by putting in place measures and mitigations that will ensure that there is no disruption to the UK telecoms networks or to the roll out of 5G 2). Removing barriers to entry and expansion to allow and facilitate the entry of scale vendors that are not currently active in the UK market, this may include providing commercial incentives and creating large scale opportunities for vendors to enter the UK market. DCMS are seeking to appoint a Provider to identify and assess the impacts (benefits and costs) of our diversification policy options. The assessment will be used for producing BCRs (analysis/models) to support the economic business case for our proposals to achieve the diversification objectives and outcomes.
