Summary of the contracting process

Shane Carr Ltd is inviting tenders for the supply of modular components as part of a novel project titled "Marine-i 113". This initiative falls within the construction industry, specifically targeting the supply and installation of innovative heavy-duty floating docks and related structures. The procurement process is currently in the Tender stage, with submissions due by 6th June 2018. The project's total value is estimated at £45,000, and it is stipulated to be financed in part by the European Regional Development Fund. The components must be delivered specifically in the South West region of the United Kingdom.

This procurement opportunity is an excellent prospect for small to medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) specialising in the manufacture of durable marine construction elements, particularly those with experience in steel fabrication and galvanisation processes. Businesses with proven capabilities in producing heavy-duty components that withstand cyclic loading and harsh environmental conditions will find this tender particularly applicable. Engaging with this contract can significantly enhance their portfolio and provide substantial growth opportunities within the construction sector.

Notice Title

Marine-i 113 - Modular Components

Notice Description

Shane Carr Ltd specialises in the design, build and installation of bespoke, innovative heavy-duty floating docks, pontoons, jetties, access brows and bridges for clients in the UK and abroad. The company now wishes to procure modular components for a novel project that will potentially be part-financed by the European Regional Development Fund. Shane Carr Ltd wishes to procure the following components for a novel floating system: 1. 68 No. steel spheres of 132mm diameter manufactured from solid steel grade ST355 in accordance with BS EN 10025 cut down on one side to have an overall height of 76mm and welded with an 8mm continuous fillet weld to an octagonal steel base plate of grade ST355 measuring 305mm x 305mm x 20mm thick. The hemisphere shall be drilled with four M27 tapped holes positioned to precisely match the directions of the connecting parts. Flattened surfaces are to be provided around each M27 hole such that the flat measures 59mm from the centre of the sphere. The assembly is to be hot dip galvanised to appropriate BS or DIN standards with the tapped holes re-threaded to remove zinc deposited in the threads. 2. 112 No. steel tubes 114.3mm diameter x 5mm thick of grade S355-J2-G3 in accordance with BS EN 10025. Each tube is to have a conical end reducing from a diameter of 114.3mm to 66mm over a length of 80mm. These cones are to be welded to the tube using the chosen company's standard laser welding production method for which there is evidence of regular use for at least 12 years. The cones are to hold captive M27 grade 10.9 special bolts with round heads and a 5mm diameter dowel pin. The bolts will screw into the steel spheres by means of hexagonal steel sleeves measuring 50mm across the flats and 45mm long. In addition the cones shall be provided with drain holes and a grub screw locking device to stop rotation of the tubes in the final assembly. All components shall be galvanized to provide durability in marine conditions. Every steel tube assembly shall measure 3189mm overall from the ends of the sleeves within an accuracy of +/- 0.5mm shall be load tested in the factory to prove a tension capacity of at least 316.3kN. Load test certification is required. The manufacturer of the components must be able to demonstrate their experience of manufacturing such products, and provide evidence of 3 projects where similar sized components are still satisfactory after 12 years that have undergone cyclic loading conditions and severe environmental conditions. All details described above are critical to ensure sufficient strength under repeated load cycles and the dimensions are critical to ensure clearance in the assembly and use of the components.
