Summary of the contracting process

The procurement process led by Wolverhampton City Council involves the implementation of a local safety scheme on the B4484 in the West Midlands, aimed at improving pedestrian safety through traffic-calming works. This contract, valued at £56,317.10, was awarded to Stourbridge Paving Limited via a direct award under the Black Country Framework Agreement for Minor Civil Engineering Works - Lot 1. The procurement, now in the award stage, saw its tender period end on 16th October 2025, with the contract set to commence on 8th December 2025 and conclude by 22nd December 2025. Classified under the industry category of traffic-calming works, this initiative is geared towards enhancing road safety by addressing route treatments and pedestrian visibility.

This tender represents significant business growth opportunities for firms involved in civil engineering, particularly those specialising in road safety and pedestrian infrastructure. SMEs are particularly well-suited to compete in such procurements, as demonstrated by Stourbridge Paving Limited, a small to medium-sized enterprise selected for this contract. Engaging in projects of this nature not only broadens a company's portfolio in the public infrastructure sector but also builds its reputation in executing community-focused safety enhancements. The focus on direct procurement methods and suitability for SMEs indicate promising accessibility for smaller, local businesses aiming to expand their footprint in public sector projects.
