The British Film Commission (BFC), part of Film London and funded by the Department for Digital, Culture, Media and Sport (DCMS), is currently in the tender stage for a project titled "Visa Research". This procurement falls under the research and development services category and is set to assist UK film and TV production in navigating post-Brexit visa requirements for UK personnel working in EU/EEA jurisdictions. The tender was published on 23rd February 2021, with a deadline for submissions on 12th March 2021. The contract period will commence on 22nd March 2021 and will continue until 28th May 2021. The total value of the contract is £30,000, with a minimum value requirement of £20,000. The procurement method is an open procedure, making it widely accessible to bidders. The services will be delivered in the United Kingdom.

This tender provides a significant opportunity for small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) that specialise in research and consultancy, particularly those with expertise in immigration law, film industry operations, and regulatory compliance. Companies that can conduct thorough assessments and provide strategic recommendations regarding the new visa and work permit landscape for UK personnel will be particularly well-positioned to compete effectively for this contract. Participation in such projects not only aids in business growth but also strengthens connections within the film industry, helping firms leverage their expertise in a changing regulatory environment.

Notice Title

British Film Commission - Visa Research

Notice Description

The British Film Commission (BFC) is the UK Government's national organisation responsible for supporting inward investment film and TV production in the UK, funded by the Department for Digital, Culture, Media, and Sport (DCMS) through the BFI and by the Department for International Trade (DIT). The BFC is the national division of Film London. The BFC leads on encouraging and supporting the production of international feature film and high-end television in the UK, strengthening and promoting the UK's production infrastructure, and working with the UK Government to ensure film-friendly policies. Since the post-Brexit transition period ended on 31 December 2020, UK cast and crew have ceased to hold EU/EEA status and are henceforth categorised as 'Third Country'. This means UK personnel may require additional authorisations, like visas and work permits, to work on feature film and HETV productions in EU/EEA jurisdictions. There is no single source of information about such requirements as they apply to UK personnel. The BFC plans to remedy this by commissioning a fact-finding exercise to establish the scope and nature of post-Brexit requirements for visa and work permits. This proposed research is focused on helping to ensure the UK can continue working with our EU/EEA partners as closely as possible in future.
