Summary of the contracting process

The Open University, located in Milton Keynes, is seeking tenders for a project titled "Tender for a UX Layer," aimed at enhancing the student journey through a cloud-based solution. This procurement falls under the CPV category of web server software packages and is currently in the Award stage following an open procurement method. The initial contract value is £24 million, with a minimum value of £20 million, covering a period from February 28, 2022, to February 27, 2037. The tender period ended on October 12, 2021, with the award published on May 10, 2022.

This opportunity presents significant growth potential for technology firms specialising in cloud-based software and user experience design, particularly those with experience in educational services. Businesses capable of delivering a seamless, integrated digital experience that promotes a connected and automated student engagement process will be well-positioned to compete successfully in this contract. Given that implementation services are not required, suppliers focused on software solutions may find this tender especially relevant, allowing for additional module purchases governed by the university's budget during the contract period.

Notice Title

Tender for a UX Layer

Notice Description

The OU Requires a UX Layer to allow us to create a seamless student journey from Enquirer through to graduation. Our vision is to create a seamless, connected, optimised and personalised journey, that is automated wherever possible. To do this we want to combine our different websites and services to create one continuous, easy to use student journey. To reach this end goal, we require a UX layer capable of delivering our mixed media content. This will be a cloud-based solution (SaaS). It will be hosted in the cloud and consistent with OU policies around architecture and security. The solution should provide a safe and secure platform for students and OU staff to use and collaborate and be able to publish information from a headless content store. The OU is only purchasing the software and implementation services are not required. The contract is for an initial period of 5 years and may be extended by the OU for further periods up to a maximum of 15 years in total. License volumes may vary up or down over the term of the contract and additional modules offered or introduced by the supplier in the future may be purchased as part of this contract following the initial implementation. Any additional purchases relating to this solution will be made with the successful supplier under this contract to ensure technical compatibility, consistency and continuation of supplier support. There is no restriction on the spend value of additional purchases as this will be governed by the OU's available budget.
