Summary of the contracting process

The procurement process involves the UK Government, specifically Public Health England, which has issued a tender for the "Provision of RealStar® PCR kits" to enhance testing capacity in response to the COVID-19 pandemic. This tender is part of the public health emergency declared by the World Health Organisation. The procurement is categorised under goods in the diagnostics industry and was executed through a direct method due to urgency, completing the tender period on 4 December 2020. The contract, valued at £2,700,000, is set to last from 4 December 2020 until 31 March 2021, covering delivery across the United Kingdom and other regions including British Overseas Territories and Europe.

This tender presents significant opportunities for businesses engaged in the medical supplies and diagnostics sector, particularly for small and medium enterprises (SMEs) capable of providing test kits or similar goods efficiently. Companies that can meet the urgent demand for PCR testing solutions or have expertise in diagnostic kit production may find this an advantageous bidding opportunity to expand their market reach and contribute to public health efforts amidst the ongoing pandemic.

Notice Description

The UK Government must protect the health and wellbeing of UK citizens. The COVID-19 outbreak is a Public Health Emergency of International Concern (PHEIC) as declared by the World Health Organisation on 30 January 2020. The WHO Director General characterised COVID-19 as a pandemic on 11 March 2020. PHE discharges its duties as a Category 1 Responder to emergencies on behalf of the Secretary of State for Health and Social Care within the scope of the Civil Contingencies Act 2004 (CCA 2004).
