Notice Title

GB-London: T1164-02 - The Future of HVAC refrigerant systems for rail vehicles

Notice Description

This research will establish the feasibility of changes to refrigerants and/or HVAC systems used in rail vehicles, leading to documented guidance that will inform industry decision making. The research should also determine whether current rail standards require clarification to accommodate the use of new gases. The objectives of this work include: *determining the availability and cost of candidate refrigerants, particularly those used in other modes of transport; *compiling the costs of adapting existing HVAC systems to take new refrigerants in terms of time, money and size of modified units; *establishing the real risks of increased flammability of alternative refrigerants, and how these can be addressed; *comparing the costs to convert HVAC systems to take new refrigerants to those of alternative technological solutions available on the market. Additional information: The contracting authority considers that this contract may be suitable for economic operators that are small or medium enterprises (SMEs). However, any selection of tenderers will be based solely on the criteria set out for the procurement.
