SC20052 - Market Square, Dover
Notice Description
Kent County Council (the Council) is the largest county council in England covering an area of 3,500 square kilometres. It has an annual expenditure of over PS900m on goods and services and a population of 1.3m. The Council provides a wide range of personal and strategic services on behalf of its residents, operating in partnership with 12 district councils and 305 parish/town councils. The Council is responsible for maintaining over 8700km of carriageways and 6300km of footways across the County. This opportunity for a Public Realm redevelopment of Market Square in Dover. The aim of the project is to revitalise the traditional heart of Dover by providing a high-quality public realm scheme. This will encourage local growth by providing a safer, more attractive, and accessible environment for pedestrians, businesses, and residents. Repurposing Dover's historic Market Square as a hub for the local community and tourists alike and improving the connection between the high street and the seafront and creating a multipurpose events space, through providing safer crossing points and increased footway widths for pedestrians, strengthen connections to the St James development, manage the impacts on traffic and improve drop off / pick up logistics for buses and coaches. A key aspect of the project is the replacement of the existing redundant fountain with a new water misting feature. KCC are supporting Dover District Council and are responsible for the design and delivery of the project. The construction period will be circa 27 weeks and the anticipated construction costs will be between PS1.5m and PS2m.
