Summary of the contracting process

The procurement process for the "Royal Observatory Greenwich - Meridian Courtyard Paving" project, conducted by BIP Solutions Limited and the National Maritime Museum, focuses on enhancing the historic Meridian Courtyard in London. This site is an outdoor public visitor space surrounded by notable landmarks such as Flamsteed House and the Camera Obscura. The project, categorized under "Buildings of particular historical or architectural interest," was initially scheduled with key dates including an end date for the tender period on 14th October 2024, and work anticipated to start on 1st November 2024 through to 31st March 2025. However, it has been announced that this tender process will not proceed due to prioritisation of another project and funding constraints.

This tender presents unique opportunities for businesses specialising in heritage site renovation, particularly those with expertise in addressing structural issues related to historic sites. This project was originally suited for SMEs interested in delivering high-quality paving and collaborative work with archaeologists. Since the cancellation, contractors should stay informed for possible future opportunities with similar requirements, which could offer substantial growth avenues for enterprises experienced in such specialised construction and restoration projects.

Text to be corrected in the original notice: Place of text to be modified: II.1.4 Instead of: Short Description: Within the Royal Observatory Greenwich, is the Meridian Courtyard which is the outdoor public visitor space flanked by historic buildings and features; Flamsteed House, Meridian Building, Camera Obscura, the Astronomer's Garden and viewing point over Greenwich. The Meridian Courtyard has suffered areas of ongoing settlement and surveys have discovered the possibility of remnants of buried structures or voids such as redundant basements and walls. An opportunity also exists to improve safe level access across the courtyard by improving the surface in a defined pathway. This is due to funding and potential impact on another project which has been now given a higher priority. We greatly appreciate the time and effort put in to the exercise and hope that you would be interested in another opportunity should it be forthcoming."
