Summary of the contracting process

The procurement process titled "Knowing the Heritage Sector - phase 1 - AWARD" was executed by Historic England, focusing on understanding the heritage sector in North East England. This project, categorised under IT services and research and development services, has reached the award stage as of December 2, 2021. The contract, valued at £22,350, will run from December 6, 2021, to March 18, 2022. The tender was conducted via an open procurement method, with bids closing on November 24, 2021. Interested parties are encouraged to engage with the buyer, Historic England, to explore partnership opportunities in this sector.

This tender presents a significant opportunity for businesses specialising in IT services and consultancy, particularly those with a strong focus on heritage-related projects. Small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) may find this contract particularly suitable, given the project's initial phase aimed at gathering and analysing data from heritage organisations. Companies with expertise in data collection, analysis, and software development relevant to heritage management would be well-positioned to compete for such contracts in the future, potentially shaping government policies and sector support strategies.

Notice Title

Knowing the Heritage Sector - phase 1 - AWARD

Notice Description

Historic England is seeking a partner for an intended multi-year staged project of which this ITT is the first stage. We want to understand better the extent, nature and location of organisations and enterprises contributing to the heritage sector of the economy in England and the relationships between them ('the heritage ecosystem') to inform Government policy development and to shape our own approach to sector support. This project represents the 'proof of concept' stage in which we want to take a manageable geographical area (North East England) and scrape for data on heritage organisations (including in the supply chain) and see how much manual topping up would be required for different categories of data such as employees, turnover etc. We then want to develop a model of the relationships between organisations to see if an 'ecosystem' can be identified. The results of this 'proof of concept' stage will inform our next stage, which would ideally be to scale up to an England-wide picture. Only this first stage, however, is a firm commitment by Historic England.
