Notice Title

The UK Medical Education Database (UKMED)

Notice Description

Health Education England manages the clinical academic trainees in England, the majority of whom are funded by National Institute for Health and Care Research (NIHR). At the Clinical Academic Training Forum (CATF), the Medical Schools Council (MSC) have expressed concern that there may not be sufficient Clinical Academics in the future to teach undergraduate medical students. To our knowledge there is no data currently available on the proportion of academic trainees that go on to take up Clinical Academic posts in medical schools. Furthermore, we do not know the extent to which take-up of clinical academic posts varies by specialty, region or key demographic variables such as sex and ethnicity. In order to understand the extent of the issue and whether any steps could be taken to mitigate attrition amongst doctors on this pathway we are seeking to commission some research and a linked data set for ongoing analysis. An earlier study evaluating the NIHR Academic Clinical Fellowship (ACF) scheme did not look at progression into clinical academic careers. The financial envelope for the contract is PS90,000.00 If any provider has concerns with the commissioning intentions outlined within the published documentation, please raise this via the e-Tendering Portal in the first instance within five (5) days of the date of this Prior Information Notice. The case for direct award can be found on the following link: https://health-family-contract-search.secure.force.com/?SearchType=Projects The closing date of this PIN midday on the Wednesday 15th December 2022.
