Notice Title

Supported Accommodation for Children

Notice Description

Sunderland City Council on behalf of Together for Children Sunderland Limited (TfC) have a requirement for a range of providers and accommodations for the provision of Supported Accommodation and related support services to Young People 16-25 years of age who are looked after or who are leaving Sunderland Local Authority Care, or who have presented as being a homeless vulnerable 16-18 year old. Section 22G of the 1989 Children's Act requires local authorities to take strategic action in respect of those children they look after and for whom it would be consistent with their welfare for them to provide with accommodation within their local authority area. In those circumstances section 22G requires local authorities, so far is reasonably practicable, to ensure that there is sufficient accommodation for those children that meets their needs and is within their local authority area. Securing sufficient accommodation that meets the needs of looked after children is a vital step in delivering improved outcomes for this vulnerable group. Having the right placement in the right place at the right time, is a vital factor in improving placement stability, which in turn is a critical success factor in relation to better outcomes for looked after children.
