Summary of the contracting process

The Sheerness Dockyard Preservation Trust is overseeing a tender for the "Restoration Project-Sheerness Dockyard Church," which aims to restore a significant historical site located in Sheerness, South East England. This project, classified under construction work, has a total value of £4,854,000 and has recently completed its award stage as of July 6, 2020. The restoration is set to begin on July 22, 2020, and is scheduled for completion by June 22, 2022. The procurement method used was a selective process, specifically a restricted procedure, and the official tender period ended on January 14, 2020.

This tender represents a valuable opportunity for businesses in the construction and restoration sectors, particularly those with expertise in historical building renovation. Companies that specialise in sympathetic restoration, landscape architecture, and have experience working on Grade II listed properties would be well-suited to engage in projects of this scale. The involvement of voluntary and community sector enterprises is encouraged, highlighting a potential avenue for organisations aiming to contribute to heritage preservation while securing project work.

Notice Title

Restoration Project-Sheerness Dockyard Church

Notice Description

The former Sheerness Naval Dockyard Church stands on the entrance to the Sheerness Docks. The church was built in 1828 and is Grade II* Listed and is situated in the Sheerness Royal Naval Dockyard and Blue Town Conservation Area.In 2001 the Church suffered a serious fire putting it on the Historic England 'At Risk' register. The fire has rendered the building derelict with no roof. The building is currently stabilised with scaffolding after a substantial grant was awarded for this purpose from Historic England. Now, under the ownership of the Sheerness Dockyard Preservation Trust, and with a major grant from the National Lottery Heritage Fund, this project will renovate and restore the building. We are seeking to sympathetically restore the building envelope back to its original 1828 form, re-instating the original roof and parapets, landscaping the grounds and creating parking for users. The interior will be a modern, architecturally pleasing and user-friendly environment.
