Summary of the contracting process

The United Kingdom Atomic Energy Authority is seeking tenders for a project titled "3D Moelling Software," aimed at improving the integration of 3D laser scanning technology with CAD software. This procurement process falls under the goods category and is currently at the tender stage, with the submission deadline set for 9 April 2021. The contract period will commence on 10 April 2021 and will run until 11 April 2021. The project is based in the South East region of the United Kingdom, with a minimum contract value of £35,000 and a maximum value of £55,000. The tender is being conducted via an open procedure.

This opportunity presents significant growth potential for businesses specialising in software development, particularly those focused on scanner software, CAD integration, and image processing applications. Small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) and voluntary, community, and social enterprises (VCSEs) are encouraged to participate, especially those with expertise in handling 3D point cloud data and enhancing engineering design methodologies. This tender could attract businesses with innovative solutions that can streamline the fusion test devices' planning and modification processes.

Notice Title

3D Moelling Software

Notice Description

UKAEA owns, builds and operates several fusion test devices. These are often highly complex machines which rely on lots of supporting plant systems. Even though we maintain an extensive library of 3D design models, these can often not be relied upon when planning engineering modifications or new installations. This is primarily because not all plant is modelled in 3D. Even the models that do exist cannot always be relied upon to be completely accurate. We currently rely on site surveys with cameras and manual methods such as tape measures when planning modifications. UKAEA is looking to improve on this cumbersome and error-prone methodology by exploiting 3D laser scanners, which we already own. The scanners themselves output point clouds which do not allow for easy integration with our CAD software. It is in the integration that we are looking to extend our capability. Requirements We're looking to obtain the capability to extract 'As-Built' geometry features from 3D point cloud scans for the purpose of 'context capture' and 'reverse engineering' within a set context.
