Summary of the contracting process

Durham County Council has awarded a contract for the accommodation of performers during the Durham BRASS Festival 2025. This annual music festival takes place in County Durham, England, from the 1st to the 31st of July 2025, showcasing brass-inspired music from international musicians. The contract, valued at £24,000 and classified under "Hotel accommodation services", was awarded directly to Durham University, Accommodation & Commercial Services. This decision aligns with the Council's need for efficient logistical arrangements, as accommodating 70 to 100 performers in one location simplifies transport and catering operations throughout the festival period.

This tender presents significant business growth opportunities for firms engaged in hospitality and event management, specifically those experienced in handling large-scale accommodation logistics. Small and Medium-sized Enterprises (SMEs) and Voluntary, Community, and Social Enterprises (VCSEs) are well-suited to compete in this sector, given their potential for providing tailored and community-centric services. Companies with a strong operational base in County Durham or familiarity with local events can leverage this contract to establish a robust partnership with Durham County Council, fostering future collaborations.

Notice Title

Performer Accommodation - Brass Festival 2025

Notice Description

Durham BRASS Festival is an annual festival of brass-inspired music that takes place across County Durham during July each year. It is part of the Council's NPO portfolio supported by Arts Council England, and financial support is secured for the festival in 2025 Musicians from all over the world come to Durham to take part in the festival, performing in schools, community venues, theatres, on the streets and in the parks across the county over a ten-day period. As part of the contractual agreements with the bands there is a requirement to provide accommodation including breakfast for the duration of the festival. Having the musicians (averaging from 70 to 100 individuals which is dependent on the size of the bands we commission) accommodated in one place is essential to the smooth logistical transport and catering operation that are required for the festival. E.g. having 8 to 10 busses at one pick up point at the same times across the week of the festival.
