Summary of the contracting process

The Home Office, the lead Government Department for immigration and borders in the UK, has awarded a contract for the Strategic Central & Bureau Platform (SCBP). This contract, valued at £96,395,438, is aimed at enhancing the nation's biometric systems, including those used for law enforcement and immigration. The contract, which commenced on 1st October 2019, has an initial duration of six years, concluding on 30th September 2025, with potential extensions of up to two years. The procurement process was conducted through a competitive procedure with negotiation, targeting IT services in the consulting and software development sector.

This opportunity presents significant growth potential for businesses specialising in IT services, particularly in application support, infrastructure management, and security services. Companies experienced in delivering biometric technology solutions or those capable of providing transformation services such as data centre consolidation and cloud migration would be well-positioned to compete in future projects. The focus on upgrading biometric systems means that firms with a strong technological foundation and a solid track record in large-scale project implementation could find themselves in a favourable position for collaboration in this evolving space.
