Summary of the contracting process

Health Education England has awarded a contract for the "Emergency Care, Pharmacy and Paramedic Workforce Programme" to the Royal College of Emergency Medicine. The procurement process, initiated as a tender, focused on education and training services with a contract value of £150,000. The contract period runs from 1st March 2023 to 31st March 2026. The procurement stage has reached the award phase, and the tender closed on 27th February 2023. The buying organisation, Health Education England, located in Leeds, United Kingdom, sought to expand the reach and scale of the Programme to attract more Emergency Medicine Doctors into the NHS.

This tender presents an opportunity for businesses in the education and training services sector to collaborate with health organizations and support the development of medical professionals. Suitable businesses could include training providers, medical colleges, and organisations involved in healthcare workforce development. As the contract focuses on increasing the number of Emergency Medicine Doctors, businesses with experience and expertise in medical education and workforce training would be well-suited to compete. The contract's duration provides stability for businesses looking to engage in a long-term partnership with Health Education England and contribute to the growth of the emergency medical workforce.

Notice Title

Emergency Care, Pharmacy and Paramedic Workforce Programme

Notice Description

HEE developed the Global Fellows - Emergency Medicine Programme in 2018 with the aim of attracting internationally educated Emergency Medicine Doctors into the NHS. Health Education England now wish to expand the reach and scale of the Programme. Whilst the Programme has achieved its aim of increasing the number of Emergency Medicine Doctors in the NHS the current workforce requirement is for additional numbers. As such, Health Education England plan to increase the number of Emergency Medicine Doctors able to join the Programme. Rather than simply recruiting Emergency Medicine Doctors from other countries, where there are also potentially workforce shortages, our ethical approach is to increase the number of overseas Doctors training in the Emergency Medicine speciality who are then eligible to join the Programme upon completion of their training.
