Summary of the contracting process

The Board of Trustees of the Royal Botanic Gardens Kew has concluded a procurement process for the servicing of Milli-Q IQ 7015 Type 1 water purification systems used in the Jodrell Laboratory. This tender, categorised under water desalination services (CPV code 65122000), was conducted through a direct procurement method and awarded on 18th July 2024. The contract, valued at £40,000, spans from 22nd July 2024 to 21st July 2027. The procurement process has now reached the award stage.

This tender presents significant opportunities for businesses, especially SMEs and VCSEs, that specialise in the maintenance of advanced water purification systems used in scientific research. Businesses capable of providing high-standard service and maintenance for critical laboratory equipment would be well-suited to compete in such tenders. This procurement not only fosters growth for suppliers who can ensure the reliability and purity of water required for intricate research tasks like DNA sequencing and LC-MS but also aligns with organisations looking to support the scientific community in Richmond, England (TW93AE).

Notice Title

Service of Milli-Q water purification systems

Notice Description

Milli-Q(r) IQ 7015 Type 1 water purification systems The requirement for ultrapure water (Type 1) by researchers in the Jodrell Laboratory at the Kew site is met by two Merck Milli-Q(r) IQ 7015 water purification systems, each equipped with two Q-POD(r) dispensers: Millipak(r) and Biopak(r) (Figure 1). These provide water used in analytical techniques including LC-MS, applications such as DNA sequencing and equipment such as a hydrogen generator in which the purity of the water, and the reliability of the supply, is critical. The systems, therefore, need to be serviced and maintained to a high standard. Neither unit is plumbed into a lab water distribution system and researchers obtain water at the Q-POD(r) dispensers.
