Summary of the contracting process

The procurement process involves a tender initiated by Cefas for the hire of a commercial scallop fishing vessel to assist with research surveys aimed at determining the status of scallop stock in the English Channel and Celtic Sea. This project is scheduled to begin in Spring 2017 and is part of a larger effort, funded by Defra, to promote the long-term sustainability of the UK fishing industry. The current stage of procurement is complete, with a total contract value of £66, and it falls under the services category, specifically relating to fishing vessels.

This tender presents a valuable opportunity for small and medium enterprises (SMEs) within the fishing and marine services sectors, particularly those with experience in scallop fishing and sustainability practices. Firms that can provide local knowledge and expertise in fisheries management are especially well-positioned to compete for this contract, which lays the groundwork for long-term monitoring of scallop stocks in UK waters.

Notice Title

GB-Lowestoft: CEFAS Request for Quotation for Commercial scallop fishing vessel hire to assist with Cefas' research surveys to determine the status of scallop stock

Notice Description

Cefas in collaboration with industry will be carrying out a research project in the scallop fisheries and adjacent areas located in the English Channel and Celtic Sea with the aim of determining stock status. Distributions and abundances of the whole stock will be determined, requiring sampling within and outside currently fished grounds. These studies require one or two fishing industry collaborators with an interest in the sustainability of the stocks, local knowledge and experience of this fishery. The project is funded partially by Defra who are committed to promoting the long-term future of the UK fishing industry and achieving Good Environmental Status under the Marine Strategy Framework Directive. This project will set the foundations for long term monitoring and assessment of scallop stocks in English Waters. We are planning to carry out the first dredge survey this year, initially in areas VIIe and VIIh in late Spring, then a second survey in late Summer (VIId). Surveys will require taking up to two scientists to sea to determine the catches in standard and modified scallop dredges. We invite you to tender for the work to be undertaken FULL DETAILS ARE AVALIABLE TO DOWNLOAD AT https://www.delta-esourcing.com/respond/Q47S5V8ARZ Additional information: The contracting authority considers that this contract may be suitable for economic operators that are small or medium enterprises (SMEs). However, any selection of tenderers will be based solely on the criteria set out for the procurement.
