Summary of the contracting process

The UK Parliament is initiating a public procurement process titled "FWK1142 - Framework for the Provision of Fruit and Vegetables (Fresh and Prepared)." This tender, categorised under the provision of goods within the fruit and vegetable industry, aims to establish a framework agreement with 3 to 4 suppliers who will deliver fresh and prepared produce for the catering facilities across both Houses of Parliament. The tender period concludes on 18 September 2021, with a contract duration starting from 25 October 2021 and extending until 24 October 2025. The procurement is being conducted through an open procedure, with an estimated total value of £2.5 million, which may be distributed among multiple suppliers based on monthly quotations to ensure cost-effectiveness.

This tender represents a significant opportunity for businesses, especially small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), to engage with government contracts and expand their market presence. Companies specialising in fresh and prepared fruits and vegetables, including those that focus on sustainability and local sourcing, would be well-suited to compete. The requirement for daily deliveries means that suppliers need to demonstrate reliability and quality in their offerings, making this an attractive opportunity for businesses aiming to establish long-term partnerships with a prestigious institution like the UK Parliament.

Notice Title

FWK1142 - Framework for the Provision of Fruit and Vegetables (Fresh and Prepared)

Notice Description

The Houses of Parliament seeks to establish a framework agreement with 3 to 4 suppliers to provide daily deliveries of fresh and prepared fruits and vegetables for use in the catering and restaurant facilities across both Houses. Our catering services meet the needs of a working Houses of Parliament and are used by a wide number of people, such as visitors, staff, journalists and police officers and not just members. The nature of a framework agreement means that the estimated cost (in this case PS2.5M) is usually higher because that amount could potentially be split between multiple suppliers. However any supplier successfully appointed to the framework will be subject to monthly quotations to ensure any orders are given to the lowest priced supplier. Tenders are required to ensure fair and open competition in the source of supply, and so this process will enable suppliers, including SMEs, to compete fairly for the award of the contract. Both the House of Lords and House of Commons routinely review their prices, adjusting when necessary, to ensure value for money to the taxpayer.
