Summary of the contracting process

The Hertfordshire Chalk Groundwater Model Phase 2 tender, managed by the Defra Network eTendering Portal, is currently in the active procurement stage. This project focuses on enhancing the existing groundwater model covering an extensive area of the Chalk aquifer in the counties surrounding the north-east of London. The tender was published on 14 April 2022, with a submission deadline set for 13 May 2022. The contract is set to commence on 6 June 2022 and will last for one year, concluding on 5 June 2023. This procurement falls under the 'Design-modelling services' industry category, and it is an open procedure that allows participation from various suppliers, including those based in the United Kingdom and other regions.

This tender presents significant growth opportunities for businesses specialising in environmental consultancy, hydrological studies, and data modelling services. Small and medium enterprises (SMEs) and voluntary, community, and social enterprises (VCSEs) are particularly encouraged to participate, as the project aims to refresh conceptual models and integrate new data for groundwater management. Companies that can demonstrate expertise in the development and refinement of numerical models, as well as experience in working within the environmental sector, would be well-suited to compete for this contract.

Notice Title

Hertfordshire Chalk Groundwater Model Phase 2

Notice Description

The Hertfordshire Chalk Groundwater Model (HCGM) represents 4060km2 of the Chalk aquifer to the north-east of London, including the county of Hertfordshire, parts of Buckinghamshire, Bedfordshire, Oxfordshire, Essex, Cambridgeshire, and London. The model represents a number of Chalk streams that are situated in the Wye, Colne and Lee catchments. These catchments have been previously assessed to suffer from large scale over abstraction through the Catchment Abstraction Management Strategy (CAMS) methodology. The EA is looking to procure an external contractor to deliver Phase 2 of the project, which will deliver the Formulation of Revised Conceptual Model. This phase will refresh the existing foundation conceptual models and merge them into a single conceptual model that will then be updated. This will then support proposals for further development of the model in Phase 3. The objectives of Phase 2 are: 1. To refresh the existing foundation conceptual models and merge them into a single conceptual model 2. To gather and review necessary datasets and literature to support merged conceptual model update, reporting on initial model conceptual model uncertainty and data gaps 3. To expand the conceptual model where new data and literature is available for several concepts such as influence of superficial deposits, karstic development, evidence of hydrogeological layering within the Chalk 4. To report on the updated conceptual model and make recommendations for development and refinement of numerical model in MODFLOW 6 (Phase 3) Additional information: Thank you for your interest in tendering for this requirement, You will need to access the documents through Bravo Solutions portal. 1) The web address is https://defra.bravosolution.co.uk and click the link to register - Accept the terms and conditions and click 'continue' - Enter your correct business and user details - Note the username you chose and click 'Save' when complete - You will shortly receive an email with your unique password (please keep this secure). 2.
