Teaching Internships Programme 2026,2027,2028
Notice Description
The Department for Education (DfE) is inviting applications from schools to deliver the 2026, 2027 and 2028 Teaching Internships Programme. Successful applicants will be awarded a 3-year grant funding agreement to design and deliver a three-week teaching internship, which typically takes place towards the end of each academic year in June and July. Teaching internships are available for undergraduates in their second, third or final year, and master's students, who are studying for a degree in STEM-related subjects and modern foreign languages. For 2026, funding will be up to PS2,065 per intern and divided as follows: * PS1,365 (PS455 per week) paid to the intern on completion of the full 3-week internship * up to PS700 paid directly to the school for coordination and delivery costs, recruitment of interns, but not including marketing costs Eligibility: The grant is available for schools in England whose most recent Ofsted inspection was rated 'good' or higher. Schools must have the capacity to recruit and deliver a teaching internship to at least 5 interns, which include maths and physics interns. Participating schools are expected to deliver the following outcomes: A Teaching Internships programme targeted at undergraduates in their second, third or final years, and master's students, who could potentially teach maths, physics, chemistry, computing, design and technology or modern foreign languages. In summer 2026, we are piloting the inclusion of design and technology internships. A recruitment strategy that will attract students in the target group to teach maths, physics, chemistry, computing, design and technology and modern foreign languages. A programme that offers interns the chance to gain a deep understanding and first-hand experience of teaching. Additional information: Please submit any questions through the DfE e-tendering portal (Jaggaer) programme portal system. DfE will be hosting webinars to answer any questions you may have about the programme on: - Wed 24 Sep, 12:30 - 13:30 - Thu 02 Oct, 16.00 -17.00 Additional Information: The department reserves the right not to enter a formal procurement process and not to proceed with grant award. Accordingly, the department will not be liable for any bid cost, expenditure, work, or effort incurred by any school or other organisation based on this Prior Information Notice. This grant competition will be run via the department's e-tendering portal, Jaggaer. It is recommended that to avoid missing out, applicants access this system to register as soon as possible using the link provided above.
