Notice Description

Westminster City Council (WCC) have now received planning permission to transform the Leicester Square ticket office in central London. The Leicester Square ticket office has been operating since 1980 as the official London Theatre Ticket Booth based in the centre of Leicester square. Originally known as the Official Half Price Ticket Booth, TKTS is located on the south side of Leicester Square in the clock tower building opposite the Radisson Blu Edwardian Hotel. The London office is open seven days a week, selling over 500,000 tickets each year with visitors across the UK and overseas tourists; tickets are all sold in person and not online. TKTS has a sister ticket office based in New York, USA and wants to create a high profile globally. In May 2012 the existing square was opened by the Mayor of London, the Deputy Leader and Cabinet Member for the Built Environment. The commitment for a new ticket booth was made within the Better City Better, Lives programme. The new design for Leicester Square's public realm commenced in 2007 as part of Living City Programme to deliver an enhanced public realm The proposal that has received planning permission allows for a roof top terrace and public cafe to be created on the top of the ticket office with a redesign of the ground floor. It is intended that WCC will retain control of the design element of the project througout its lifetime. WCC are interested to speak to organisations who would be interested bidding for the works to discuss the proposed designs ( which are available now on Capital E Sourcing) and determine market interest in the scheme.
