Notice Description

Construction work to revitalise the Parkland, Walled Garden and setting of Stanmer House and includes work in the following areas 1. Southern Boundary - construction of new building to welcome / orientation building: creating a refreshment kiosk, toilets, orientation point, and a bike hire station.? 2. Southern car parks: extending car parks and improving surfacing, boundaries to manage and improve car-parking provision 3. Main drive to Stanmer House - resurfacing / re-laying/ repairing road from the south car park, removing the ad-hoc parking sites along the drive, restoring the character and features of the 18th century designed landscape including original tree layout.? 4. A new pedestrian / cycle path: with an off-road 'greenway' west of the main drive recreating an early 19th century carriage drive feature vital for visitor safety and to improve traffic management.? 5. A new car park in the Patchway providing additional capacity supporting the Walled Garden business as well as use by less ambulant people or those with disabilities. 6. Re-landscaping areas around Stanmer House: including removal of parking from front, pond restoration and landscape improvements 7. Restoration and cleaning of the Grade II listed classical Portland limestone Frankland Monument. ?? 8. The Walled Garden and Nursery - to create a working and productive food and plant growing area and hub for training and activity with Key Partners including Plumpton College. The works include a. Remediation of the ground contamination and demolition of redundant glasshouses b. Extensive landscaping works to create a new garden (planting by others) c. Restoration of historic walls, gates and features d. Refurbishment and re-purposing of existing perimeter buildings e. A new caf? extension f. Expansion of existing 19th century orchard adjacent to Walled Garden? g. Relocation of an existing glasshouse and creation of a farm shop enclosure within 9. Management of the tree stock throughout the park and in particular the woodland to the south of the Walled Garden and relocation of selected avenue trees 10. Demolition of redundant pre-fab buildings to create overflow parking 11. A programme of signage and interpretation Defined elements of the works will involve Contractors design. The key challenges that the works present include: 1. Developing a programme of working that minimizes the disruption to park users 2. Carrying out landscape works in an environmentally sensitive manner to ensure long term viability 3. Carrying out the works to achieve the required quality standards 4. Managing the Health and Safety aspects associated with working in a working, open and popular park 5. Dealing with multiple stakeholders 6. Balancing the many partners and stakeholders requirements within the scope of the ?funded project whilst addressing issues in the wider estate, such as recreation, ?agriculture and ...
