Notice Title

Guidance for Heritage Asset Management on Heathland 2021

Notice Description

Heathlands Reunited is a multi-partner project funded by the National Lottery Heritage Fund, which is focused on recreating, reconnecting and restoring the precious 1% of remaining lowland heathland with the South Downs National Park. The project has also worked to reconnect local communities with the heathland sites on their doorstep to increase understanding of the ecology and wildlife of heathlands, while also building custodianship that values and cares for heathland sites. As part of the legacy of the Heathlands Reunited Project, the South Downs National Park and the National Trust would like to commission a guidance document that will act as a single point of reference for best practice in the care, management and protection of heritage and archaeological assets in lowland heathland contexts. This guidance will ensure due diligence to heritage and archaeological assets in heathland contexts as part of both the planning and delivery of all conservation, management and maintenance works at heathland sites.
