Summary of the contracting process

The NHS Shared Business Services is initiating the procurement process for the "Provision of Community Podiatry Services" in the South East of England, under the health services category. This tender is currently in the Award stage, with the award decision made on 31 July 2019. The contract, valued at £2,236,000, has an active period starting from 30 September 2021 and ending on 31 March 2023. The buying organisation aims to develop an Integrated Care Partnership and Primary Care Networks in the Medway and Swale area, in alignment with the NHS Long Term Plan.

This contract presents significant opportunities for businesses specialising in health services, particularly those equipped to deliver podiatry care and community health initiatives. Companies capable of ensuring the continuity of essential patient services will be strongly positioned to compete, especially those with experience working within the NHS framework. As the contractor is expected to support the transition to a new Community Services contract in 2022, this could lead to further contracts for successful bidders as the NHS modernises its service delivery.

Notice Title

Provision of Community Podiatry Services

Notice Description

Direct award of an interim contract for a period of 18 months, with an option to extend for a further 12 months, to enable the CCG to facilitate the development of an Integrated Care Partnership in the Medway and Swale area and the formation and development of Primary Care Networks. The development of the Integrated Care Partnership and Primary Care Networks will help the CCG to meet the ambitions of the NHS Long Term Plan, which was published in January 2019 and set out priorities for the NHS in England. Following which, in 2022, the CCG intends to commence procurement of a new Community Services contract and transfer this service to the future provider of Community Services. Recognising its obligations and responsibilities underthe NHS (Procurement Patient Choice and Competition (No.2) Regulations 2013, the CCG has assessed the most appropriate route to awarding this contract, having regard to the necessity to secure continuity of this essential patient service and has concluded that the incumbent provider will assure the safest solution andbeing considered the only technically capable provider at this time.
