Notice Title
GB-RE19208: SURF Elliptical Mirror Guide
Notice Description
Laboratory, optical and precision equipments (excl. glasses). SURF is a neutron reflectometer with horizontal sample geometry. It is mostly used for the study of liquid and solid/liquid interfaces. The incident beam is sloping down at an angle of 1.5deg below the horizontal to allow scattering from liquid interfaces. A non-polarizing super mirror is used to deflect the beam up in order to access angles lower than 1.5deg on liquid surfaces. The requirement is to supply a horizontally focusing elliptical neutron guide split into 3 sections: MG1, MG2 and MG3. All guide sections include an m=6 super mirror coating of the inner left and right faces. The middle section also includes an m=6 super mirror coating of the inner lower face. All the remaining inner faces are either neutron absorbing (1-17 A) or have a null-reflective coating.
