Summary of the contracting process

The Cornwall Local Energy Market project, led by Centrica plc, is currently inviting tenders for the provision of energy infrastructure at the Lower Ninestones Solar Farm in Cornwall. This initiative, classified under the electrical machinery and equipment industry, aims to connect a 2.5MW solar farm to the Western Power Distribution Network. The tender is part of a broader EU-funded programme to enhance renewable energy generation and improve energy asset flexibility within constrained distribution networks. Interested parties must submit their responses by 2nd May 2018, with the project anticipated to commence on 1st June 2018 and conclude by the end of December 2018. The procurement method follows national rules and operates under an Invitation to Tender process with a total contract value ranging from £400,000 to £600,000.

This tender presents significant opportunities for small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) specialising in electrical contracting and renewable energy solutions. Businesses with expertise in high and low voltage electrical works, communications infrastructure, and related ground works will find this project particularly suitable. Additionally, firms that can demonstrate experience in deploying technologies for energy flexibility and renewable energy generation will be well-positioned to compete for this contract. As the project aims to implement innovative strategies to increase low carbon energy penetration, it opens avenues for companies focused on sustainable and low carbon technology solutions.

Notice Description

Centrica plc invites you to submit a response in respect of this Invitation to Tender (ITT) for the Provision of Energy Infrastructure at Lower Ninestones Solar Farm, Cornwall. The Cornwall LEM Programme Centrica plc's Cornwall Local Energy Market project (LEM) is an EU-funded pioneering initiative involving the development of a virtual marketplace. The trial provides participants (homes and businesses) with a platform to buy and sell energy, and flexibility to both the supply networks and the wholesale energy market. The project's overarching aim is to demonstrate that the electricity distribution network can facilitate an increased penetration of renewable / low carbon electricity generation by invoking novel strategies including flexibility. LEM project outputs include reducing GHG emissions by enabling more renewable and low carbon electricity generation, as well as enabling energy asset flexibility in the most constrained areas on the distribution network. To this end, the project will install low carbon energy generation assets, such as natural gas CHP, renewable energy generation, storage, private wire networks, and demand-side response technologies into selected industrial and commercial premises in Cornwall. What we're looking for The Cornwall Local Energy Market Programme has a requirement for a suitably qualified electrical contractor who can provide energy infrastructure to connect a 2.5MW Solar Farm at Lower Ninestones near St Austell to the Western Power Distribution Network and the Cornwall Local Energy Market. The energy Infrastructure comprises high voltage (33 kV) electrical works, low voltage electrical works, communications equipment and associated ground works that must be designed, supplied, installed and commissioned by the end of October 2018. The full specification is contained within the ITT document pack which is available on request. Additional information: Cornwall LEM is an ERDF funded project and as such operates under national procurement rules.
