Notice Description

PHE requires a portable gamma-ray spectrometer suitable for contamination survey work and environmental monitoring. The instrument must be ergonomically suitable for field use (featuring ruggedised weatherproof design, portability, ease of operation, readability of displays etc) and produce real time results as well as storing spectra for later download at the base laboratory via standard transfer protocols. The instrument should allow calibration against a range of radionuclides including radium-226 to an ISO 17025 accredited standard. The detector must be of suitable sensitivity for environmental applications (equivalent to 3" x 3" NaI(Tl) or better) with automatic stabilisation. Measurement positions must be recorded by in-built GPS and available for download with associated spectra/readings via Bluetooth, wifi or by cable connection. It must be capable of up to 8 hours continuous performance on internal battery power and have the capability for re-charging from 240V mains or 12V car supplies. Flexibility of application (environmental dose rate, contamination survey mapping, in-field gamma spectrometry. All necessary hardware and software component must be supplied. This is a one-off purchase, however it is intended that service, support and supply of bespoke consumables (if applicable) will be covered by this agreement for the lifetime of the equipment or until PHE re-tenders the requirement. This requirement is for the Public Health England Radiochemistry department at the Centre for Radiation, Chemical and Environmental Hazards in Glasgow, Scotland.
