****THIS IS AN AWARD NOTICE, NOT A CALL FOR COMPETITION***** The British Geological Survey (BGS) had plans to conduct an offshore project during summer 2019 for equipment trials and a seabed sampling survey. In order to achieve this the BGS required a vessel from which to deploy their remote seabed drilling equipment, RD2. Following an accelerated open competition exercise, the contract was awarded to Commissioners of Irish Lights.

There will be an estimated one month required prior to this to prepare for vessel mobilisation. The anticipated deadline for signing of contract is 8th June. This requirement is using the accelerated procedure due to committed scientific survey projects in 2020/21 and need for the RD2 remote seabed drilling equipment to be operational. If this charter is conducted during the autumn months there is a high risk that all scientific objectives will not be achieved due to adverse weather conditions. In addition, there is a significantly higher risk of losing the RD2 remote seabed drilling equipment due to poor weather (replacement value ~PS3M)."
