Notice Title
Percutaneous Mitral Valve Leaflet Repair for Primary Mitral Regurgitation
Notice Description
NHS England is intending to commission provider(s) to carry out Percutaneous Mitral Valve Leaflet Repair Services for Primary Mitral Regurgitation across the following four regions: East of England, Midlands, North East & Yorkshire, and South East. It is therefore the Commissioner's intention to split any future procurement process into 4 lots, subject to responses to this PIN and Market Engagement Questionnaire. (Please see details further down on how to access the questionnaire). Additional information: The mitral valve's normal function is essential in ensuring one way forward flow of blood from the left atrium into the left ventricle .Mitral regurgitation occurs when the mitral valve fails to close properly following ventricular filling; blood fails to flow through the aortic valve and into the aorta. This regurgitated blood leaks back through the mitral valve into the left atrium and can cause heart failure if a sufficiently large enough volume of blood regurgitates into the left ventricle. Percutaneous mitral valve leaflet repair (PMVLR) is currently commissioned for primary or degenerative mitral regurgitation. The procedure is not commissioned for individuals with secondary (functional) mitral regurgitation. Following publication of the commissioning policy, Specialised Commissioning agreed that arrangements should be put in place to provide rapid access to the procedure. For this reason on an initial basis the three providers that had taken part in the earlier Commissioning through Evaluation scheme a Commissioning through Evaluation (CtE) process, three providers were commissioned selected to perform PMVLR: * London: Royal Brompton and Harefield NHS Foundation Trust * NW: Manchester University NHS Foundation Trust * SW: University Hospitals Bristol and Weston NHS Foundation Trust Any future provider selection process is therefore to cover the additional 4 regions on an interim basis for a period of 2 years, with the option for the Commissioner to extend the contract(s) for a further 12 months (i.e. 2+1), subject to market feedback and internal approval. This service is expected to commence on the 1st May 2021. PROVIDERS MUST RESPOND TO THIS PIN NOTICE / QUESTIONNAIIRE IF THEY WISH TO BE INCLUDED IN ANY FUTURE SELECTION PROCESS. If you wish to express an interest and complete the Questionnaire, please register on the EU Supply website https://uk.eu-supply.com/login.asp?B=UK .
